An Important Milestone Achieved in the TAPI Corridor Between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan

The important milestone has been reached in the TAPI corridor.

Two separate fiber optic connection segments connecting Turkmenistan to Afghanistan are ready to be commissioned.

At the government meeting held by President Berdimuhamedov with video link on Monday, January 4, 2021, it was reported that the work in the İmamnazar-Akina and Serhetabat-Torgundi segments of the fiber optic network was completed. These are two border points between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. These two segments in Afghanistan will be connected along the Herat-Akina route, and this investment will help complete an important component of the TAPI corridor between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and ultimately India.

In addition to these two segments, necessary communication equipment was installed on the Mary-Serhetabat line.

This network will potentially reduce data transfer time by more than 30 milliseconds and could generate nearly $ 200 million annual revenue for Afghanistan.

In addition to the fiber optic network, the construction of the Akina-Andkhoi railway line is in full swing. This segment will bring the Imamnazar-Akina railway link between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan closer to the deeper territory of Afghanistan and to the region where the planned Pakistan-Afghanistan-Uzbekistan railway line will pass. Turkmenistan uses its own funds and resources for the construction of the Akina-Andkhoi railway segment.

Much work has been completed in the Akina-Andkhoi railway segment. 26 of the 33 culverts on this route have been completed.

The electricity transmission lines from Kerki power plant to the İmamnazar border point have been completed. This will provide a significant increase in power supply volumes from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan. Vice President of Foreign Affairs DPM Meredov (foreign affairs) will soon visit Afghanistan to discuss commissioning arrangements for these facilities.
